Publishers have been looking at Apple’s acquisition of Prss very carefully, formulating ideas of what the platform will be used for. Will Apple attempt to get further into digital publishing?

An article from Talking New Media takes a look at what may happen. “What some vendors fear is that Apple will release a reading app that makes creating separate branded apps unnecessary, overnight destroying a whole industry. Some understand that the various digital newsstands are becoming so mismanaged that the best hope for digital editions may be in allowing publishers to sell them directly through their own websites”

One would imagine that some publishers would love to only sell their content through their website, eliminating the 30 percent fee paid to the third-party platforms like Apple. However, that could be tough for smaller publications and startups that do not already have a lot of brand recognition.

Furthermore, the article mentions that some publishers may like the idea of a content aggregation app that will make it easy for them to convert a lot of content consistently, even if it’s not new or unique content.
