University Health Publishing Group, LLC Named Mequoda 2006 Publisher of the Year

Sudbury, MA October 4, 2006- University Health Publishing Group, LLC Named Mequoda 2006 Publisher of the Year

University Health Publishing Group, LLC has received the 2006 Mequoda Publisher of the Year Award for its exemplary reorganization and management, using the Mequoda System.

Don Nicholas, the Mequoda Group’s managing director, presented the award to Rodney Friedman, the publishing company’s founder, at the 2006 Mequoda Summit, held in September in Waltham, MA.

“Rodney Friedman is a visionary whose creativity and business acumen are reflected in a lifetime of achievement in the publishing world,” Nicholas said. “With the launch last year of the John Hopkins Health Alerts website (www.johnshopkinshealthalerts.com), he has demonstrated his devotion to embracing innovation while staying true to his mission of helping ordinary people be smart consumers of health and medical information.”

Mr. Friedman has had a distinguish career in the publishing industry. He founded two prominent health publications: the University of California Berkeley Wellness Letter and the Johns Hopkins Medical Letter: Health After 50, and was an Internet pioneer during the dot-com era when he founded WholeHealthMD. He is a graduate of Hobart College and received his law degree from George Washington University.

University Health Publishing is a publisher of consumer health information. It started as a newsletter publisher in 1983, when Friedman decided to create a health newsletter for consumers and market it by direct mail.

An independent company that operates under a license agreement with Johns Hopkins, University Health Publishing has taken its leading brand—Johns Hopkins Medicine—and developed 26 paid products that it markets to a database of more than 12 million customers.

During the past year, the publishing company has overseen a 10-step transformation from its core print business to extend its multi-million dollar media empire onto the Internet.

The Mequoda System, developed by Nicholas, is a repeating cycle of management behaviors that creates an audience driven, continuous improvement media management system.

Nicholas’ Mequoda Group (www.Mequoda.com) studied hundreds of successful and not-so-successful website publishers to arrive at the seven best practices that make up the Mequoda System. This system helps publishers, Internet marketers and web designers learn how to turn their special interest magazine, newsletter, book, website, blog, forum, TV show, radio show or newspaper column into a multi-million dollar niche media empire.
