No doubt, spinoff ventures are one of the best ways to turn one book into a full-time living.
Having said that, we do agree with Bowerman on this important point:
“Put your best first efforts into book promotion, because it’s the credibility that springs from your new-found notoriety that builds the momentum into other related businesses. Adding a few (or more) thousand dollars to your bottom line from each of four, five, six or more offshoot ventures will not only build your bank account, reputation, and resume, but it’ll make life that much more fun and interesting.”
Many writers will tell you that after their first book was published they were considered an “expert”. At least by the public, if not themselves.
The sheer fact that a book they had written was published, bestowed that title upon them. Beware, Bowerman also warned of those seeking freebies. Your opinions and advice will be sought after, so take advantage of that opportunity before someone takes advantage of you.
