Two Website Design Complaints Users Have When Browsing Sites

When browsing websites, there are a few common affordance issues that make it hard for a user to comfortably travel around a site.

  1. Some color choices are hard to see—for example an olive green link on an orange background is very hard to notice.
  2. Action buttons such as “Go” and “Search” that have no mouseover change. Without mouseovers, users have to stop and think before clicking on them. And users don’t want to stop or think!

While these affordance issues typically aren’t enough to make a user click away, they could still be improved with a few simple design changes.
