Background on Vida y Salud
The initial idea of creating Spanish-language health information website was brought to Carl and Aliza during the first Internet boom. After in depth research on the cost of the venture and a look into the target market, the couple decided to pass on the opportunity at that time.
According to Kravetz, it may have been the best decision he and Aliza made, especially since there was a major technology bust that soon followed.
In 2008, the two revisited the idea of the health website again. Kravetz was feeling burnt out on the advertising business and wanted to utilize his knowledge, talents and connections. The cost of launching a website had dropped due to open source software that had become available. Furthermore, the number of Hispanic users online has grown drastically. The time was starting to look right for Carl and Aliza.
Carl then learned of the Mequoda Group from a friend and colleague at Editorial Televisa and he enrolled in the 2008 Napa Valley Summit.
His mind was made up after attending the Summit in Napa Valley and the content for the site started being planned in fall of 2008. Vida y Salud officially launched on June 1st, 2009 with around 240 posts in a dozen health categories. That number had grown to over 900 posts in 21 different health categories.
Vida y Salud publishes 12 biweekly email newsletters and a free weekly email newsletter on an array of health topics.

How Vida y Salud was able to do this
Vida y Salud began with a well-recognized brand name in Dra. Aliza. She is easily the best-known name in Hispanic health care.
Vida y Salud also focused on developing great content and adding it daily. They work with around 3,500 keywords and phrases, which is an aggressive attempt of being found easily on search engines.
Vida y Salud also followed the best practices behind the Mequoda System. This helped them to develop free content in order to attract new email subscribers that they can communicate with on a weekly basis. One additional part of the Mequoda System stresses the need to follow metrics. By doing so they realize where the most traffic was coming from, and they changed their advertising strategy because of this.
Advertising was another component Carl and Aliza focused on for Vida y Salud. These consisted of pay-per-click campaigns on Google, Facebook and content networks to links on popular websites like AOL, Univision Radio, Meredith Publishing and People en Espanol.
Lastly, Kravetz says luck was on their side because no one had entered their niche in the 10 years between taking their first look at the idea and actually bringing it to fruition.
