Today, over 50 million people in America alone consider themselves to be bloggers.

The act of blogging for profit is equivalent to freelance writing in the ’90s

Freelance writers used to create content without having the ability to directly publish their material. Due to this, they would offer their services to print publishers for a fee, and the publishers would include the pieces in their publications.

Nowadays, freelance writers have the opportunity to launch a blog to better promote their talents to the Internet community. They can then include Google AdSense ads to the site and work on building traffic so that search engines like Google will begin viewing the site as a credible source of information.

Even though there is a lot of competition in the blogging world, one single blog can turn into a multi-platform publication with the right attention, interesting subject matter and a passionate blogger behind the content.

Today, most bloggers start off blogging part-time and work to build a following of loyal readers who will eventually purchase paid products directly from the blogger and from sponsored advertisements. Many successful bloggers also speak, teach or take part in consulting gigs.
