At the time of this interview, Forbes.com was one of the most bold, successful traditional publishers who had entered the world of online publishing.

This has not changed, and although other publications have found success online, Forbes.com remains as an admirable online publication.

During this podcast with Steve Forbes you will hear his thoughts on how Forbes.com viewed the Internet from the very beginning in 1996. “The Internet is a platform to reach our basic constituency,” Forbes discussed.

In a time when many publishers feared the immense change in front of them, a change no publisher truly understood the magnitude of, Steve Forbes and the rest of the Forbes.com team faced the challenge head on.

Steve Forbes’ Mentality Behind Forbes.com

Understanding the mindset of successful individuals is often times desired by the curious people among us. For publishers, legacy and online a like, there is the constant thirst for knowledge and the search for the latest trends that will propel their publications to the most successful places.

During the interview, Steve Forbes mentioned his love of entrepreneurial capitalism. Everything Forbes.com does is directed towards this class, which leads Forbes to believe the audience that reads their publications view Forbes.com as entrepreneurial, on the edge, conversational and especially more sympathetic to those trying to make things happen.

Organizational Strategy of Forbes.com

It can be hard for traditional print publishers to add an online component. Many times there won’t be budgets for new hires, so the online components are slowly developed upon the shoulders of already extremely busy editors.

Steve Forbes knew this was not the way to start Forbes.com. Instead, he focused on growing the medium, making Forbes.com its own entity from the start, and keeping the core audience as its focal point.

It’s interesting to see these different mediums treated as so by a successful publisher. Listening to Steve Forbes discuss this strategy doesn’t create a great amount of surprise, because it’s a strategy that makes complete sense. Yet, it’s hard to not admire the ability to carry out such a daunting task.

Content Behind Forbes.com

Content is important to the success of any publication. The content has to be strong, relevant and timely to hold the attention of any savvy audience.

This is most likely why Steve Forbes has found success with Forbes.com, especially when 98% of the website content is not in the magazine.  It shows how Forbes.com is truly focused on the same constituency and offering up additional information for that audience.

Diversifying their content even more has led to television show Forbes on Fox, which was the first publication to go from print to television successfully. To reiterate the success of his strategy, you can deduce that Steve Forbes found success in the medium of television because the medium was treated correctly. They did not attempt to read a magazine on television, but they created content directly for the medium. The show is adversarial, opinionated and geared for television.

Steve Forbes and the Management of Mediums

In the constantly changing world of business, it’s critical to steer the ship in the right direction. Some management ideologies have been around for years, demanding very rigid specifics from employees. Steve Forbes however, seems to view the aspect of managing in a modern light. Our Mequoda Digital Media Podcast: Interview with Steve Forbes expresses that Forbes.com is about seeing results day in and day out and encouraging a creative environment. There is no specific box for employees of Forbes.com to fit into.
