Five Content Models

The five most popular content models being used by successful online publishers include the following, all of which are explained in more detail in The Mequoda 500 Research Methodology free report.

-Open Content Model: The open content model provides users with some amount of content for free. Many websites do this by offering a blog or portals to share their free content.

-Closed Content Model: Closed content websites always require users to register and login to view the majority of the content. Although closed content websites may provide some content for free, the bulk of its content is reserved for registered members.

-Retail Content Model: Websites that facilitate transactions of products or services are using the retail content model. The products and services offered have to be branded and do not include advertising for other companies.

-User-Generated Content: Websites that allow users to directly interact by commenting, reviewing, rating, posting or taking part in conversations involve a user-generated content model. Social networks are always incorporate user-generated content and many blogs do too, as users are often encouraged to participate in conversations.

A majority was Google-Friendly at 59%, but it is surprising more online businesses aren’t optimizing for Google.
