A New Connection Between MySpace and Facebook

A social media team-up

Don’t you love it when the world of social networking gets that much more interesting?

Mashable received a special notification about the press conference held by MySpace and Facebook and announced to the community prior to the big news being released.

This of course made me curious. I had heard rumors before about a new partnership between MySpace and Facebook, but wasn’t sure if, or when, it would actually happen.

Now the day has arrived. According to Mashable, MySpace and Facebook announced yesterday that they will expand their relationship and put a connect with Facebook button on the MySpace homepage. This new feature will allow for a personalization and sharing opportunities on MySpace.

The companies are calling the new product “Mashup with Facebook”. This product will allow Facebook and MySpace accounts to connect with one another, and bring likes and interests from Facebook over to MySpace. This way, MySpace users can connect with their favorite entertainers easier. A “like” button will also be placed throughout MySpace.

This partnership will likely help out MySpace greatly, as it has turned into more of a promotional place for artists and musicians over the years. It will likely bring more users into MySpace, while still increasing the reach of Facebook.

What are your thoughts on this new merger of social media giants? I’d love to get your opinion on it.
