New Twitter Search Helps Audience Development Efforts

Digital publishing news for February 4, 2014

Twitter’s search functionality has gotten an upgrade. The Verge is reporting that you’ll be able to sort through tweets efficiently now. Casey Newton writes, “After entering a query in the search bar that appears on Twitter.com; you can now filter results by people, photos, videos, and news. You can also filter results to include tweets only from people you follow, or tweets that are near your current location. The filters help make Twitter searches more useful at a time when the company is putting increased emphasis on images, videos, and the news. Video search contains an additional toggle that allows you to browse only Vines that contain your keyword.” This should be a nice addition for publishers looking to connect with new people on Twitter.

Digital-Only Car Magazine Ignition Gets Renamed

Talking New Media is reporting that Ignition has been renamed to Auto Trader Magazine UK. D.B. Hebbard writes, “The publishing team must have decided that building a new brand, even one supported by an established title, can prove harder than simply using the existing one. So AutoTrader has updated its Ignition app and renamed it Auto Trader Magazine UK. The magazine is still free – in fact, the existing app icon in iTunes splashes “Free to download” across its cover to make the point – but the app currently does not have any new issues inside it with the rebranded magazine (all the issues still say Ignition).” Discoverability within Apple Newsstand is cited as a reason for the name change.
