Personnel Changes Come to Multiplatform Publishers

Multiplatform publishers at Hearst, Elle and Time Inc. experience personnel changes

We’re seeing changes come to multiplatform publishers, particularly as they work on alignment of digital properties.

Our first story looks at Hearst’s new CTO Michael Dugan, who is coming from Forbes to help the publication’s digital unit. Variety reports, “In the newly created position, Dugan will manage all aspects of Hearst Magazines Digital Media technical organization around the world. He reports to HMDM global president Troy Young.”

Consumers are telling us loud and clear what they want—are you listening? How much would you pay for that information? Download a copy of our 2018 Mequoda Magazine Consumer Study for FREE instead, to find out how you can improve your digital magazine rapport with subscribers.

Mike is a seasoned leader with a proven track record in the media tech space,” Young says. “His knowledge and expertise will be invaluable as we continue to develop new platforms and systems that leverage our understanding of our content, our growing knowledge of our audience and our aggressive commerce strategy to create unique value for both users and advertisers.”

The article continues with a look at the work Dugan did for Forbes. “As CTO of Forbes, Dugan was responsible for all software, systems and network engineering teams in support of Forbes digital and print publishing and content-delivery platforms. Prior to joining Forbes in 2000, he worked as an information-technology project leader at HBO and was a programmer analyst at internet-service provider Prodigy Communications.”

For our next story we turn to the multiplatform publishers at Elle and the company’s recent promotion of three internal staffers. AdWeek reports, “Elle.com promoted three yesterday, upping columnist R. Eric Thomas to a full-time role as senior writer. Thomas, a playwright, began a hybrid humor/politics column, Eric Reads the News, for Elle.com in July of last year.”

Additionally, “Sally Holmes gets a promotion from deputy editor to executive editor. She had been at New York magazine’s the Cut before joining Elle.” And Gena Kaufman moves from social media director to director, social media and special projects. She had joined Elle.com from People StyleWatch, where she had been social media editor.”

For our last story we turn to Time Inc. and its new editor-in-chief at HEALTH. Talking New Media reports, “Time Inc. today appointed Lori Leibovich Editor-in-Chief of HEALTH, effective immediately. Leibovich will also oversee digital for TIME HEALTH, a new company-wide initiative that draws on the full portfolio of Time Inc.’s brands, including TIME, HEALTH, FORTUNE, COOKING LIGHT, REAL SIMPLE, MY RECIPES, SOUTHERN LIVING and PEOPLE. In addition, Clare McHugh has been named Senior Director for Edit Operations.”

Leibovich succeeds McHugh as HEALTH Editor-in-Chief, overseeing content and editorial operations for the brand across platforms. Most recently, Leibovich was Time Inc.’s Digital Director of Women’s Content, leading the company in its expansion of content for millennial women across all brands and social platforms since early 2017.”

The article continues with a look at the focus Leibovich will have. “Along with driving HEALTH’s digital priorities, Leibovich will work with other titles and digital desks to help rapidly grow the digital scale and reach of health content across Time Inc.’s brands. She will report to Group Digital Director of News and Lifestyle Edward Felsenthal.”
