A Primer on the New SIPA Website!

SIPA’s New Website Ushers in New Era

It’s up and running! Can there be four better words in today’s highly virtualized culture than those? SIPA’s sparkling new, just out-of-the-box website went live a few days before Christmas like any proper gift should. And it is functioning so smoothly that we’ve tossed out the receipt! So we hope that you find the time to take a look around; it’s much more interactive and information-filled than the old site (and easier to navigate)—especially if you are a member.

As a way to help you get started, each week we will be highlighting a key feature on the site. This week it’s updating your member profile and how to start connecting with other SIPA members. One of the key benefits to the new site is the ability for you to interact with other SIPA members in real time. It is our hope that the site will be a SIPA version of Facebook (referring to the connectivity not the status updates).

How do you get started? Log into the site, using your email and the password “sipa1” or go through the Facebook connect link.

Manage your profile. Once you’ve logged in, you can upload a photo (click the icon where a headshot would go) or start on the right rail where you will see a header, “My Profile”—under that, click “Manage Profile.” Here you can update all the information about yourself and your company. If you are a key member, please note you have a category “Sub-Accounts”—this is where you manage your staff as SIPA members, allowing them to log in to the site and access SIPA membership benefits. If you see staff missing, then add them; if they’ve left, remove them.

Next, start connecting. Click on the word “Membership” on the right rail and then click on the sub-directory page “Membership Directory.” Here you can look up SIPA friends and colleagues. Once you’ve located them, you can send an email and/or request to connect with them. You can also see who’s online with you at that time. On the same Membership Directory homepage, underneath the words “Member Search,” you will see the words “Who is Online Now?” Click that to see who else is online.

Another way to search for people is on top of the right rail where you will see “Community Search”; type in the last name of a colleague or friend. This is also where you can search for content on the site, so you will not just get names, but content search results as well.

Have a question? Want a SIPA staff member to contact you for help? Not a problem. On the top rail under the SIPA logo, click “Contact Us” and a SIPA staff member will respond within 24 hours either via email or, if you prefer, telephone. We are very pleased and excited about the site’s capabilities—your ability to interact online with your fellow members will improve dramatically. We hope you will reconnect with old friends and build new connections and friendships on our site.
