New Adobe Publishing Platform Coming Later This Summer

Mobile apps are the focus of latest Adobe publishing advancement; plus, Time Inc. and Rodale try new tactics

Adobe publishing is a pricey option for publishers, but many believe the company’s products are worth every penny. While we proudly partner with Mag+ and direct our niche Mequoda Members to that platform, there’s no doubt that we have tremendous admiration for the Adobe DPS, which offers a full array of tools for digital magazines.

Talking New Media recently covered the announcement that the latest Adobe publishing platform – originally billed as Adobe Publish but now back to the line’s original Digital Publishing Solution – will be released this summer. In the meantime, a beta version is seeing release. TNM also discusses some interesting new moves from Time Inc. digital and Rodale.

Beta of Revamped Adobe DPS Is Here

Users of the Fast Company mobile app, which was redesigned and relaunched back in February, have already gotten a preview of the new Adobe publishing product. The two partnered on the project, which by all accounts has been a huge success. With the software due this summer, Adobe has made it a point to give the industry a giant leap in mobile app production, which could be appealing to publishers struggling with the platform.

Talking New Media reports that current Adobe DPS subscribers will gain use of the new DPS when it’s released later this summer. For now, the curious can sign up for the beta version.

“Apps created with the new DPS are like nothing you’ve ever seen before – with high-impact, interactive content delivered to audiences in a uniquely intuitive way. Content is now grouped together in what we call collections and these collections are delivered to mobile devices seamlessly. Audiences get instant access to the content they want and designers get complete control of how that content is displayed,” writes Adobe Digital Publishing Head Nick Bogarty on the company’s blog.

“Incredibly flexible layouts give designers the ability to customize apps without coding. Designers can build beautiful mobile app experiences, thrill brand managers and meet business goals. It’s a win for everyone. Plus apps created with DPS run on phones and tablets using all major mobile operating systems–iOS, Android and Windows. We’ve also included all of the app services you need to communicate with audiences including push notifications, in-app messaging, content discovery and social network integration.”

Rodale Publishing Partnering on Branded Meal Kits

In a cool bit of ecommerce, Rodale is working with Chef’d, a gourmet meal kit delivery service, to offer products affiliated with various publishing titles, Talking New Media reports. Bicycling, Men’s Health, Prevention, Rodale’s Organic Life, Runner’s World, and Women’s Health will sell meals to consumers based on their respective interests.

Time Inc. Digital Launches Ad Campaign

In a cool twist on ecommerce, Time Inc. digital is taking out ads in various industry publications – AdWeek, Ad Age, and Digiday, for instance, but also in print – to directly appeal to potential ad buyers, Talking New Media reports.

“Our mission is to ignite, fulfill and elevate the world’s passions,” Time Inc. CEO Joe Ripp said in a statement. “Through the power and scale of our influential media network, Time Inc. opens the experience for each and every one by creating the most unique and relevant combinations of content, services and platforms, around and across passions.”
