Growing Numbers of Social Network Users

Users 65 and up are now into social networks more

Earlier this week we posted an article about having an Internet marketing strategy for baby boomers. We said it was a necessary step to take and a recent article from eMarketer backs up the validity behind our suggestion.

The article I speak of discussed findings from a survey conducted by the Pew Internet & American Life Project that Internet usage among users ages 50 and older almost doubled during the past year, from 22% to 42%.

Additionally, 47% of users ages 50-64 are using social networks more, with Facebook and LinkedIn being top choices of theirs. Similarly, 26% of seniors age 65 and up are using Facebook and LinkedIn as well.

Pew offered a few reasons as to why social networks are appealing to this age group. These reasons include reconnecting with people from their past, learning about the lives of their family members and connecting with people who have similar health problems.

Read more about this group of social network users and leave us a comment sharing your thoughts on social network and its trends among users.
