Web Advertising Growth in 2010

Advertisers will spend more on Internet ads than on print newspapers by the end of 2010

We are upon a historic note.

Online advertising will grow 13.9% to $25.8 billion for the entire year of 2010. When it comes to print, advertisers are expected to spend $22.78 for the year of 2010. This statistic is down 8.2% from 2009.

This is the first time ever that online advertising will top print advertising for an entire year.

These findings come from eMarketer in a recent article.

Geoff Ramsey, the CEO of eMarketer believes the bad economy has accelerated the shift away from print advertising towards digital advertising because it’s more reliable, especially search ads. The success of print advertising can be difficult to measure, whereas it’s much easier to track data with online advertisements.

eMarketer believes that print advertising will continue to decrease in 2011, estimating 21.4 billion in 2011. Meanwhile, online advertising is expected to grow 10.5% in 2011 to $28.5 billion.
