What Content-Based Products Can You License?

Successfully licensing products will generate growth for your online content-based business

In the Mequoda Daily yesterday, we discussed ways of generating revenue with content licensing opportunities and three goals for the process of content licensing.

In case you missed it, the three goals for content licensing mentioned in the article include building traffic, building your brand and building your revenue.

Content licensing offers online publishers the ability to find new audience members while generating more revenue from the content.

What growth-oriented online publisher wouldn’t want to experience these benefits of content licensing? There really aren’t too many reasons to not engage in content licensing, especially if you have the content already available.

The product for content licensing – Off the shelf content vs. custom content

Before licensing content to third parties, you will need to define the product you’re offering.

There are two main options for online publishers in this process: traditional, off the shelf content or custom content.

Off the shelf content is material that’s already been created and serves as a part of your current content database.

Custom content is created specifically with the licensing partners in mind.

Which product you decide to license is up to you. Realize that custom content will take more effort to create, although it will likely generate more revenue for you.

A benefit in attending our upcoming 90-minute education webinar – Content Licensing Opportunities: How to Drive Website Traffic and Increase Online Revenue with Content Syndication

While attending the Content Licensing Opportunities webinar on Tuesday, February 1st at 12:30 pm ET, you will discover how to fulfill the requirements of your content licensing agreement.

In order to do so, you will first need to decide if you will be providing a custom product or a traditional, off the shelf product.

After choosing, you should ask yourself these questions:

-How will you get the content to your licensing partner? Will it involve manual or automatic fulfillment?

-How much content is required in the agreement?

-How many customers will be served with this content?

-What kinds of content will you be offering? Is it written, audio or visual pieces? What are the file sizes and formats the content will be in?

-How frequently updated will the content be (daily, weekly, monthly)?

-How customized will the content be? The more custom components, the more the syndication deal will be worth.

-What are the technical requirements of the agreement?

All of these questions should be considered in length, and will be explained during the upcoming webinar.
