An online community for members of the book publishing industry to track deals, sales, reviews, agents, editors and news

PublisherMarketplace.com is a membership website that is beneficial for anyone in the publishing industry

This membership website calls itself a dedicated marketplace for publishing professionals to find critical information and unique databases, to find each other, and to do business better electronically.

And if only 10 percent of the 25,000 readers of the Publishers Lunch email newsletter are also paid subscribers of PublishersMarketplace.com, the site is grossing $37,500 month, which is $450,000 annually.

Publishers Marketplace works, in part, because it is driven by the attention of more than 25,000 publishing professionals who read the free Publishers Lunch e-mail newsletter every business day.

PublishersMarketplace.com enables anyone to freely access the job board listings, browse members’ pages and view members’ rights and proposal offerings.

Access to the premium content on the Publishers Marketplace site costs $15 per month, billed monthly.

Rights offerings

On a recent visit to PublishersMarketplace.com, you might have discovered that the Russian and Chinese reprint rights to The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Understanding Buddhism, Second Edition by Gary Gach, have been purchased, but that all other reprint rights are still available.

Or that Maligned Designs, Tish Cohen’s debut novel, is set in Boston and brimming with quirky characters who complicate the heroine’s life uproariously. In fact, you could read both a review and an extensive excerpt from Maligned Designs, and then followed hypertext links to contact the author or her agent.

This information was posted in the public portion of the website.

Additionally, a member can post a brief promotional message on Publishers Marketplace. “Featured Page” listings may include a short promotional message and a hyperlink to a web address, for $40 daily. Publishers Marketplace sells no more than three listings per day, to maximize the special attention provided.

If you want daily access to new deal postings, or if you want to host a Marketplace page and thus be included in search and browse results, you need to sign up for a paid PublishersMarketplace.com account. If you just want to search and browse the member pages and rights offerings, you don’t need an account at all.
