The landing page optimization process we use has gotten us to page #1 with Google on multiple keywords. It is a process we teach all of our clients and Mequoda Summit attendees.

When creating a rapid conversion landing page, or any other landing page for that matter, we begin with research. Choosing relevant keywords for your landing pages will help you reach page one on Google. Where do you start?

Landing Page Optimization Step 1: Keyword brainstorming. Take each of your primary keyword phrases, which should mirror your primary topic pages, and plug them into Wordtracker or the Google Keyword Tool.  You will discover additional niche, secondary keywords and phrases.

It’s easy, just type in one of your primary or root keywords and dozens of related keywords will show up. This process helps you find keywords you can ‘own’, meaning you’ll be in the #1 position on page one of Google. This will also increase your email subscriber file.

Landing Page Optimization Step 2: Look at the demand or popularity of each phrase. Select terms with decent search volume and low competition. You’ll need to know how many other websites are competing for Google’s top spot on each of your keywords.

Landing Page Optimization Step 3: Perform an exact match query. Type your keyword phrase into Google.com with “quotes” around the term. Google will display the number of websites using that exact phrase (side-by-side in that order) on the results page.

Landing Page Optimization Step 4: Optimize your landing page with the keyword you’ve selected. The title, title tags, and description should all be optimized for the same term.

Repeat the landing page optimization process for every landing page you write. Mastering keyword research and SEO copywriting are the two most important skills for making money online, whether you publish a blog, newsletters, books, magazines or any other media. It’s the only way Google will find and index your content.
