As publishers, we need to pay close attention to how consumers spread our content and what topics they enjoy the most. We need to continuously supply them with the best possible content and give them the tools for taking it to their contacts.

In the digital landscape, you don’t want to be the company that gets left behind because your online business is not optimized for social media and you’re not making it easy for your audience to share content.

For WordPress sites, the TweetMeme button makes it easy for users to share content to Twitter. This button gives real time information on the amount of tweets an article gets and can be re-skinned for customization purposes. Hi Kim – two quick things to note:

It’s “TweetMeme”, as in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLC6ykDdlYM http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meme and http://knowyourmeme.com/

Also, there seems to be an issue with TweetMeme properly finding links where UTM parameters have been added for tracking. We ended up removing the TweetMeme button because it was frequently showing 0 when there was at least 1 tweet, if not more. Obviously if you’re not using UTM parameters it seems to work fine.

As an alternative, SexyBookmarks’ “new mode” has built in FB, Twitter and G+ count buttons in one package along with other regular share buttons for a ton of different services.
