At the Mequoda Summit West 2012 in Colorado, we listed HootSuite as a helpful social media tool for digital publishers.

For those who were not already using the social tool, there were some follow-up questions. They asked what could be done with it, and if it was worth spending the money to get HootSuite Pro. Let’s take a closer look at each option, so you can decide for yourself.

For starters, the free version of HootSuite offers some helpful options. Scheduling tweets is the first one that comes to mind. This makes life easy for publishers with a lot of content to share, who want to reach their audiences when even when they aren’t working. I often schedule tweets to run in different time zones, that I wouldn’t be able to do live (unless I was awake at 3 am.)

This option lets you get some basic social analytics, and it lets you track keywords or hashtags. With the free version you have the option of creating up to five social profiles.

The Pro version includes more comprehensive social analytics, which offer integration with your Google analytics account. You can even get stats on Facebook data. If you have multiple people operating your social media accounts, the Pro version allows for an additional team member to be added to the account. And speaking of multiple social media account, if you have over five social profiles, the Pro version would be helpful since it offers unlimited social profiles.

The Pro version of HootSuite costs $5.99 per month, with the first 30 days free; A reasonable price for a lot of social media data.

Is anyone using HootSuite Pro? I’d love to hear your opinions of it in the comments below.
