Search engines account for the majority of traffic for many online publishers focusing on organic search engine optimization strategies.

According to Comscore U.S. Explicit Core Search, as of December 2010, 66% of search engine users rely on Google for their search needs. This is why we teach SEO components specific to Google’s search algorithm.

Are you following an article template that’s designed to land in Google and get you more website traffic? If not, follow the tips below.

5 components of a search engine optimized article template

Article templates must include keyword phrases your audience is searching for. These relevant keywords will be used in each part of the article template.

#1 – Page Title: Include your main keyword phrase into the post’s page title. For instance, in this post, “article template” and “increase website traffic” were the two keyword phrases being targeted. As you can see, they both appear in the page’s title.

#2 – URL: Keywords belong in the meta data of web pages and this includes the URL. Including keyword phrases into relevant meta data will help improve ranking and is something many online editors neglect.

#3 – Headline: Using keyword phrases in all headlines will increase the strength of your optimization efforts. This practice also immediately ties the reader in and makes it very clear what your content is about.

#4 – Subhead: Reinforcing keywords in subheads further improves your chances of being ranked. In this post, “article template” was used in the subhead as it was in the headline, and the phrase “more website traffic” was also inserted as an additional targeted keyword phrase.

#5 – Body Copy: Your body copy should include 3-5 different keyword phrases with the most important ones being used more often. The body copy of this article included “article template”, “increase website traffic” and “online publishers”. All of these keyword phrases are relevant and searched for by our audience.

To get the most out of your content, be sure to utilize an article template every time you create posts. Doing so will help catalogue your content for audience members while building internal linking strength, pointing to rapid conversion landing pages that offer free reports.
