Digital Watermarks a Trend Among Magazines

Publishers are more often using digital watermarks to drive mobile engagement, a recent study by Digimarc found.

“In 2013, 55 U.S. magazines used Digimarc Discover in 332 different issues, with an increase in downloads by nearly 300 percent. Also, the total addressable market for the watermarks reached 65 million in 2013, nearly double the previous year,” Folio:‘s Samantha Wood writes.

“The most popular scans of 2013 were recipes, sweepstakes and video, featured in magazines such as The New Yorker, All You, Coastal Living, Cosmopolitan, Parents, HGTV Magazine, Saturday Evening Post, Veranda and more. Digimarc technology also enabled House Beautiful to launch ‘shoppable ads,’ where readers could scan the ad creative to ‘buy now.'”
