Kate Lanphear, the previous style editor of The New York Times’ T, has been selected as the new editor-in-chief for Maxim, reports NY Post.

Lanphear joins the magazine as the second woman to head the title in its history. The first female head was Clare McHugh.

It’s reported that Sardar Biglari, the owner of Maxim, has spent a lot of money bringing in new talent, such as Lanphear and publisher Kevin Martinez. Lanphear signed on for around $700,000 per year, while Martinez was coaxed away from Conde Nast for $1 million per year.

As the article from NY Post states, Lanphear “will be faced with the task of rebuilding staff after a high degree of turnover since Biglari completed the buyout of the embattled 18-year-old magazine for about $12 million in a distressed asset buy from Cerberus and others after talks to sell to another suitor collapsed in late 2013.”
