Combining Content Marketing with Social Media

Since content marketing is unobtrusive by nature, it fits well with social media

Since content marketing is unobtrusive by nature, it fits well with social media

Content marketing is unlike all other forms of marketing. In fact, when I think of the broader term
“marketing”, unavoidable interruptions come to mind. For example, when you turn on the radio to listen to music, you’re marketed to. The same goes for the television, to an even larger degree. We are all inundated with messages that we rarely care to hear, and all that can be done to fight against such an interruption is to change channels. Doing so will allow for a brief period of commercial-less viewing, but will be short lived.

Content marketing reaches people on a more personal level, and it is never obtrusive.

If someone was interested in learning the “content marketing strategy” and searched this term exactly as is, they would find our free report on page-two in Google.

With the free report they would learn about the strategy behind it while engaging in the process itself. In order to download the free report they would have to enter their email address and double opt-in to our email list. In the process they would be expressing their approval to receive further correspondence from us.

This is the beginning of a relationship that both parties are voluntarily taking part in. Nothing is blaring towards un-wanting ears. It is all expected and accepted, which is similar to social media relationships.

Content marketing and social media

The actions you take within the world of content marketing could be combined with social media actions because they have very similar characteristics.

Social media is about connecting with your audience in a personal manner. You can connect with your social media friends by sharing your experiences, pose questions to your audience and allow for the lines of communication to remain open.

Furthermore, I’m sure that my friends like to receive free information when it is on a topic that they are interested in. A majority of the content surrounding your content marketing efforts should be offered free of charge. This can be written blog pieces, free white papers, video or audio pieces.

Anytime you put out free content, be sure to promote it via the social media websites that you use to stay connected to your audience.

We recommend tweeting about the release of a free report or any other type of free download. New Twitter followers may initially be surprised by the generous act and may be compelled to re-tweet to the list of their followers.

This is a great way to continue growing your social media followers in addition to growing your email subscriber list.
