We’re seeing major advances in tablet technology come to life before our eyes.

MediaPost is reporting on the launch of TabletTV in San Francisco. This service is bringing 50 digital broadcast and local channels to tablet owners in the city.

Digital video has become a valuable tool for many publishers. The launch of TabletTV may increase the potential for publishers, as Video-on-Demand and Subscription-Video-on-Demand is expected to be an additional element of TabletTV in the future.

Here are a few details about TabletTV from MediaPost: “Priced at $89.95, TabletTV’s starter kit including a T-Pod unit and iOS-compatible TabletTV App, now available on the iTunes App Store. The Android compatible App is expected to be available in 2015. Viewers get direct free over-the-air TV transmissions to their tablet devices utilizing existing ATSC distribution. Broadcast channels include all terrestrial network and local channels available.”
