What is your “reader satisfaction” score?

[question]

I’ve heard people refer to their email opt-out rate as a “reader satisfaction” score. Can you explain this a bit?

[/question]

[answer]
If you want a good indicator of how satisfied readers are with the content you’re sending them in your email newsletters, the Opt-Out Rate is a great one. On the flipside, it will also tell you that when you send out a promotional email or include a sponsor that your readers find offensive, you’ll see very clear spikes in the Opt-Out Rate for individual efforts. And then of course when mapped on a month-to-month basis, you can look at the overall health and vitality of your email subscriber file.
