We Like Sewing

Check out the We Like Sewing August Issue today!

Sew faux fur for fun, give denim new life, make a romantic top!

There’s no getting around it: our trip around the sun is bringing us summer-loving dreamers back to earth. As summer winds down, fall is just around the corner. And for a lot of us that means back to work and back to school. But there’s still plenty of time for summer sewing and quilting fun!

The patterns in our August Issue of We Like Sewing range from Easy to Experienced. That means skill and confidence building for beginning sewists, and interesting challenges for the more experienced among us. All these projects are designed to brighten your day, your wardrobe, and your home!

You’ll feel like you’re floating on air in our Tuscany V-Neck Blouse. This romantic pattern features a deep V-neck, flowy handkerchief sleeves, and an almost-off-the-shoulder style. This dreamy blouse will look great with jeans or a structured skirt. Sew this breezy blouse in a lightweight fabric to take advantage of the warm weather still ahead.

Pop quiz: Where’s your TV remote? I don’t know about you, but I need all the organizational help I can get, and I don’t want to spend a ton of money to do it. Forget the store-bought organizers and make yourself our Modern Lounge Armrest Remote Caddy. The pattern is totally customizable to your furniture and the size of your remotes, so you can make just the organizer pockets you need. There’s even a spot to hold magazines! I’ll be making a couple more for friends and family who are always looking for their remotes.

Quilters looking for a fun summer challenge will love the flow and feel of our Summer’s End Drunkard’s Path Quilt Pattern. This is a great opportunity to get comfortable quilting with curves. Use a mixture of light and dark tones to bring this mesmerizing pattern to life.

When the dog days of August are upon us, we know that school buses won’t be far behind. Surprise a young one in your family with a custom-made, oh-so-cute Purr-fectly Pink Kids’ Backpack. An ideal accessory for the preschool set, this faux fur feline friend is a great alternative to those pricey (and less well-made) backpacks you’ll find at the store. Our backpack features a drawstring closure and custom-size straps. And who can resist that adorable kitty smile?

Our August Issue also includes patterns to mark the changing of the seasons. If you love changing up your door wreath, we have a new pattern for you that’s down-home cute and upcycle-friendly! Create our Rustic Upcycled Denim Rag Wreath in the morning and have it hanging on your door before dinner. Be ready for Halloween early when you make our Spooky Season Halloween Table Runner. This is a perfect project for confident beginners and you can customize the length to the table you plan to decorate. Our favorite detail of this runner: the adorable bats at each end!

We know there’s always something new to learn—and that includes finding thrifty solutions to our sewing and quilting needs. This month we offer you 6 Thrifty Ways to Find Sewing and Quilting Books. We know you have a huge selection of projects right here at We Like Sewing, but sometimes it’s great to find books with vintage patterns you just may not find anywhere else. And on the tutorial front, read Walk This Way: How to Use a Walking Foot. If you quilt and you’ve never used this specialized sewing machine foot, you’re in for a real treat! Check your accessory box and give it a try!

No expert sewing skills are required to make any of the projects in our August Issue. Get ready to make something new and beautiful!
