Which business model (search, online publisher or online retailer) generates the most money?

[question]Of the three business models (search, online publishers and online retailers) which model generates the most money and how does it all relate back to us as online publishers?[/question]

[answer]At the end of the day, the big revenue generator online is retail. If you are an online publisher, online retailers are probably some of your biggest advertisers. You may actually be an online retailer yourself. In fact, most of the online publishers we work with also sell magazines, books, newsletters or other information products. In some cases, those product sales might be 15 to 20-percent of their online revenues with advertising making up the rest.

In other cases, some clients are purely product-driven, like Johns Hopkins Health Alerts. There are 35 Johns Hopkins products in the Johns Hopkins online store and those are the products that you will see being advertised in the Johns Hopkins Health Alerts email newsletters.
