A Tool to Track your Professional Interests Online

Call it damage control, call it public relations. Keeping tabs on what others say about you and your organization is crucial.

I introduce to you Google Alert. Google Alert is a service that monitors Google’s pages (and the entire Web) for your interests, and emails you when a new result pops up. They call themselves the “Web’s leading automated search and intelligence solution for monitoring your professional interests online.”

Many people use Google Alert to keep track of what the web is saying about them, their companies, their industries and the projects they are involved in.

The free trial service allows you up to three names or phrases to search, and will track up to 50 results. Signing up is easy; just create a user name and password and enter the three names or phrases you want tracked. You then receive an email whenever a new search result pops up.

They also offer advanced services, from Google Alert Personal, to Google Alert Premium, Professional and Platinum, which vary in monthly membership fees from $4.95 to $39.95.

Google Alert has no association with Google. Google has agreed to the use of the Google Alert name and googlealert.com domain, and they are in regular contact with one another, but are not in association.
