Press Release Guidelines from the Pros

Tips from the pros on how to create social media press releases

Ian Capstick of MediaShift at PBS.org defines a Social Media Press Release as “a single page of web content designed to enable the content to be removed and used on blogs, wikis and other social channels. In practice, social media releases (SMRs) feature multiple embedded links (a YouTube video, Flickr slideshow, SlideShare presentation etc.) and blocks of text similar to those found in traditional releases (spokesperson quotes, boilerplate and contact information).”

More and more press release sites are encouraging multimedia elements in press releases, making it easier and easier for us to create releases that can grab more attention.

The New MySpace Social Media Strategy

Will the new MySpace help users forget the old MySpace

MySpace will now focus on social entertainment for Generation Y. They want to expand to include music, celebrities, movies, television and games that will be available through multiple platforms, including online, mobile devices and offline events.

This has been a long time coming. It’s about time they admit and embrace their place in social media. They are not and should not be compared to Facebook, two totally different niches within social media. And YES, there is room for both, if there wasn’t MySpace would have disappeared long ago.

5 Tips for Writing a Better Press Release

A few simple press release guidelines for writing better press releases

Oftentimes, a press release is written in a formulaic fashion and before it goes live, we only ask ourselves the basic questions like… are there quotes? Are we pointing them to the page we want? Does it include all the correct contact information? Does it make people want to write about or learn more about this news?

When you begin to get accustomed to writing press releases, it’s very easy to glaze over the more marketable and approachable opportunities that you can offer to these little buzz generators. It’s also easy to forget that the people who are more likely to use your press release these days are bloggers. Bloggers respond to press releases much more differently than traditional media.

The information found in this article should be of interest to everyone. Seriously. Everyone else can rejoice over the fact that companies are finally seeing the value in content marketing, and are realizing that shouting their message or simply touting the features of a product are not enough anymore.

Maybe consumers are getting savvier with how they spend their money. I’m sure economic woes have played part in that instance. How to write a proper press release tweet

When a company is asking whether or not they should tweet their press releases, you might think, “well duh”. Or to put it more professionally, “most certainly!”

Yes, most importantly you’re there to help customers and be a part of the Twitter community, but at the end of the day, it’s a long tail approach to your online marketing strategy.

Tips on How to Optimize Online Press Releases

This free report from Mequoda Group discusses how online PR is a way of gaining visibility from online communities

(Nationwide)—Online PR can help reach a big, direct audience online that is interested in the topics covered. Successful online PR has to be very focused. It needs to be designed specifically for the news being promoted and it should contain specific keywords that people are searching for. If it does not involve these two important components, chances are that the press release will not be picked up by search engines or seen by a large audience.

To begin engaging in online PR campaigns, start by creating a press release. Make the release between 250 and 400 words and newsworthy.

Learn How to Develop a Content Marketing Strategy

Successful publishers evolve and so does their content marketing strategy

Smart publishers will tell you that once they started optimizing articles and landing pages for Google, search engines have become their biggest source of incoming traffic and email subscriptions. Social networks like Twitter, Facebook and Linkedin have become the second largest source of incoming traffic.

We feel the key to making money online, as a publisher, is giving away lots of free content with a clear path to at least one source of revenue. Stop the in-your-face approach of screaming at consumers to “buy my product”. You now have the opportunity to interact with them and create a meaningful relationship.

Utilizing Online Video Content

How are people finding the videos you’re creating for content marketing purposes?

According to Alexa.com, YouTube is the third most popular website on the entire Internet. One can see why it’s so popular if you take a few moments to browse it. There are all types of video content on the site, but what catches my eye the most is the fact that there’s so much user-generated content.

User-generated content is easy to create nowadays since video recording equipment has come down greatly in price. You can even buy an HD Mino Flip for under $200 online.

Learn How to Write Effective Headlines for a Press Release

Research your keywords before you begin to write a press release

Research, research, research. Yes, it all starts with keyword research. Before you even begin writing a press release, find at least two keyword phrases that you want to be found by in search engines.

If your not sure what keywords to target use the Google Keyword Tool to determine your primary and secondary keyword.

New Email Marketing Trends

Have you thought about using podcasts for building email circulation? With the popularity of iTunes and online radio like Pandora, podcasts are an easy way to reach eager listeners through the Internet.

Creating a podcast is not as technically challenging as it may sound. There are free software programs available that are fairly user-friendly. Try Audacity, FeedforAll or Easy Podcast.

Next, create a rapid conversion landing page. This is where users will “land” to download the podcast. The RCLP should be keyword-rich and highlight the content of your podcast.

5 Steps to a Successful Online PR and Link Building Campaign

Number 4 on the list is the SEO press release; it’s not to be overlooked but often is an afterthought. On the Internet, press releases take on a new meaning and provide an additional marketing opportunity that only some in the industry have figured out—search engine visibility.

Now that the public can read press releases directly on various Internet news portals such as Yahoo! News or MSN News, it’s becoming more important to optimize press releases for online distribution. They must be keyword-rich and provide links back to your site or article.

Content Marketing Tips for Leveraging Magazine Content

Begin building multi-platform brands

Whether you have years of back-issue magazine content, or you’ve compiled information that has never been seen by the eyes of your niche audience, you can be leveraging that content in the digital age.

Content marketing and ways of leveraging that content go hand in hand. Improving and enhancing the audience’s experiences with your content is the name of the game. In order to do this, you have to supply them with the content and do so in any number of multi-media platforms that your audience members use on a regular basis.

Looking for Ways to Build Your Email Marketing Lists?

Three external sources for building email circulation

It seems everyone is trying to build email lists nowadays. While paying for a book the other night in Barnes & Noble, I was asked to give my email address in order to be sent messages from the company.

Even with social media gaining more popularity, the power of email is still strong. Many companies have designed respectable policies for privacy, take email correspondence seriously by creating a detailed schedule for the content and take precautions to assure the security behind email communications.

If you’re experiencing a headache with your content creation, it’s time to focus on the content you’re putting out and the time frame in which you’re doing it.

Online PR can be looked at as a component to SEO campaigns. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is all about building visibility by ranking in search engines. How to Incorporate SEO Copywriting Into Your Press Releases

Increase links and promote your content throughout your website and search engines. Competition within online PR has grown immensely. In fact, it has reached the degree where many press releases are picked up by search engine features like Google News and Yahoo! News.

The press release factor can play a huge part in gaining incoming links and reaching the correct audience for your news. The more quality links you receive, the better reputation your content will have. The more audience members exposed to your content will likely mean more traffic and more conversions.

New PR Survey Tips Generously and Wisely

A New Survey on Public Relations Provides Some Up-to-Date Answers. In 1963, John Marston wrote a book, “The Nature of Public Relations,” saying that “public relations is planned, persuasive communication designed to influence significant publics.” Almost 50 years later, the definition hasn’t changed all that much, but how we go about those “persuasive communications” certainly has.

In a new study released yesterday by PRSourceCode, titled “2010 Top Tech Publications, The Evolution of Tech PR,” the state of public relations in the online world was summarized by questions like “How do you measure your social media impact?” and “How do you work to engage different media?”

Modern Press Release Guidelines

An introduction to online PR. It’s hard to contemplate the impact of the Internet. It has helped many industries and hurt others; it has given people the opportunity to find other like-minded individuals and information on topics they love. This is basically my approach to modern online PR.

My thought process has always incorporated the desire to spread the good word on interesting and beneficial things. Often times, I find that those products, services, or informational pieces don’t find the audience they deserve due to oversaturation. Let’s face it, there is a lot of clutter, and much of it isn’t nearly as positive as products that are hard to find. This is especially true within the online environment.
