When we first heard about Google’s new Play Newsstand for Android devices … we were underwhelmed.

John McDermott writes, “At $39 per month or $399 per year, The Information will have to entice readers to buy its information, a tough sell considering the abundance of free tech news sites. Lessin believes The Information’s differentiator is implied in its name; by providing exclusive reporting and analysis, tech professionals will pony up. TIME Enters The Modern World of Digital Magazine Publishing

We’ve noted here that it seemed simply astounding that a publisher with the vast resources of Time Inc. was putting out a blurry product. TIME magazine – granddaddy of all American news publications, 90 years young, and one of the few major players with a healthy OMI, was, until its Nov. 4 issue, publishing non-retina display enabled issues.

Five Tablet Guidelines Presented by the MPA

The MPA Tablet Metrics Task Force recently announced new guidelines for tablet metrics

The action was taken to better serve advertisers while attempting to create consistency among digital magazine publishers.

In addition to tablet metrics guidelines, the group created a common set of definitions and decided when data should be released.

The MPA Tablet Metrics Task Force consists of a group of magazine executives from seven publishers, including Bonnier Corporation, Conde Nast, Forbes, Hearst Magazines, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, Meredith Corporation and Time Inc. Advertising agencies and the MPA Executive Committee were also consulted during this process.
