A Global Digital Commercial Team is launched by Hearst; Multiplatform publishers Discovery Communications and Active Interest Media names high-rank employees
As a new year gets underway, some multiplatform publishers are tackling major initiatives early on.
We’re seeing this play out at a number of publishing brands, including Hearst, Discovery Communications, and Active Interest Media.
The first story is on Hearst’s new hires and its development of its first Global Digital Commercial Team. InPublishing has the story: “Lead by Tracy Yaverbaun, Global Vice President, Digital at Hearst Magazines International, the team will work with the world’s leading advertisers to drive excellence in global branded content partnerships, allowing Hearst’s customers to reach their desired audiences across all relevant digital platforms at scale, says Hearst.”

The article continues by mentioning some of the key hires involved in this initiative. “Hearst Magazines announced several key hires for the group in London and Milan. Chris Porter has been appointed Digital Director to lead the sales function from London. Porter joins from Facebook where he has worked since 2009, holding a number of positions including Client Partner and most recently Head of Luxury and Apparel.”
The next story involves Active Interest Media (AIM) and its newly-hired chief financial officer. Fishbowl NY has the story: “Active Interest Media (AIM) has named Michael Henry chief financial officer.
“Henry most recently served as senior vp of finance and CFO for The Denver Post…Henry is succeeding Brian Sellstrom, who is retiring after ten years with the company.”
This isn’t the only personnel change at Active Interest Media that’s being reported on. Talking New Media is also reporting on the new managing director of the company’s Mountain Group.
“Active Interest Media today announced the promotion of Andy Hawk to Managing Director of AIM’s Mountain Group. Expanding on his role as Managing Director for Warren Miller Entertainment, Hawk will now oversee AIM’s full portfolio of Mountain Group properties, including SKI magazine, Warren Miller Entertainment and Custom Production and the SIA Snow Show Daily.”
The article continues by talking about Hawk’s experience at AIM. “Hawk joined AIM in 2013 as Director of Industry Partnerships for Warren Miller Entertainment, and was subsequently promoted to Managing Director. During his tenure, the company’s revenues grew substantially through innovative video production and television partnerships. He began his career as SKI’s marketing intern in 2001, before becoming an advertising sales rep. He later served as publisher of Ski Racing magazine and then as marketing director for the Professional Ski Instructors of America and the American Association of Snowboard Instructors.”
We’re also seeing a change at Discovery Communications, reported on by Fishbowl NY. “Discovery Communications has promoted Gabriel Sauerhoff from vp, digital media distribution, to senior vp, digital distribution. Sauerhoff has been with Discovery since 2010. He previously worked for Disney and ESPN Media.”
